Spring Weather Takes Over the Day in Eastchester

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Maybe it was the luck of the Irish that brought beautiful weather to the area Saturday.

Children played soccer and basketball in shorts — sweatshirts and jackets lying on the ground forgotten — as afternoon temperatures hovered around the 60-degree mark.

Taylor Erdman, 8, and her 3-year-old sister Madison played catch with their father Tom, as mother Rene looked on at the playground behind Anne Hutchinson School in Eastchester.

"I wore a sweater today, and now I am so hot," said Rene Erdman, an Eastchester resident, while shielding her eyes against the glaring sun.

Down the road in Bronxville, Sarah Kent helped her son Cody, 3, climb on bars on the playground of the Bronxville Elementary School.

"This is a great way to spend St. Patrick's Day," said Kent, who lives in Bronxville. "The weather is beautiful, and everyone is smiling and wearing green."

George Rasinski said the springlike day would not feel like St. Patrick's Day to him until he had some corned beef and cabbage.

"I think it will feel like St. Patrick's Day to me, but later tonight," Rasinski said while watching his daughter Verena, 6, and her friend Flavio Vacca, 5, dangle from the overhead bars.

While Saturday was glorious, the National Weather Service predicts cloudy skies on Sunday, with a decrease in temperature and a chance of rain.

"I think we may still see a peek or two of winter before we are officially into spring," Kent said.
