5yrs probation is nothing to sneeze at. I'm sure she will have to report weekly for the first yr. This girl will have to submit to random drug testing, home visits by the probation, and any other demands the probation department makes. If she so even jay walks she could be violated and sent to jail. This girl is being punished under the law as its written. If anyone wants change for harsher sentencing you must write to your lawmakers and have petitions and be sure to vote.
What I can say is when you're 15you do as, your parents say. I'm willing to bet any 15yr old would love if their dad allowed them to drive. A minority of 15yr ols would turn down such an offer. And yes I believe she will live with this for the rest of her life. It will hit her again when shes entering her 30's applying for her career and it pops up on her record. Probation follows your permanent record for the rest of your life.
