Bronxville Resident Competes in RBC Decathlon Fund-raiser

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Eastchester and Bronxville residents participated in the RBC Decathlon at Columbia University, raising nearly $1.4 million for pediatric cancer research at Sloan Kettering.

The RBC Decathlon is open to members of the financial community that promise to raise a minimum of $3,000 from donors. In all, the $1.4 million was raised by less than 100 participants, led by former Olympian Dan O’Brien’s $100,600.

Decathletes competed in 10 events, including two long-distance runs, a sprint, agility drills, weight lifting and other events that would be in a decathlon or found at the NFL Combine.

Competitors earned points for each event, which were combined at the end to find the overall winner, Mark Rubin from Barclays.

Tuckahoe resident David Carraturo was the top competitor in the bench press, putting up 175 pounds 42 times. Bronxville resident Andrew Hogue was the winner in the over 40 category, and also won the 800-meter race, finishing in 2:11.

Both Carraturo and Hogue finished with better overall scores than O’Brien, who won the gold medal in the Decathlon at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
