BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- The Concordia College men's golf team finished second place at Dominican's (New York) Charger Challenge. The two-day event concluded Sept. 28 at the Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y.
The Clippers finished eight strokes behind St. Thomas Aquinas for the top spot. As a team Concordia shot a 309 in the first day and then followed with a 292 which was the lowest team score out of the nine participating schools.
The Clippers were led by junior Juan Roa (Cali, Colombia) as he shot a 74 (+2) in the opening round and then a 70 (-2) to finish with a 144 (E). Roa's total was second-best in the field of 52 golfers as Michael Frizalone from St. Thomas Aquinas took home the individual medalist. Sophomore Mark Kilpatrick (Cheshire, United Kingdom, England) carded an opening 73 (+1) in the first round and followed with a 79 (+7) to finish in 10th overall with a 152 (+8).
Concordia was one of of two schools to place multiple finishers in the top-10. Sophomore Chartpetch Bangpetch (Chonburi, Thailand) placed T-11 as he shot a 153 (+9) which included a 78 (+6) in the first round and a 75 (+3) in the second round. Both juniors Jackie Barnes (Stormville, N.Y.) and Massimo Grassotti (Torino, Italy) finished T-18 with 156's (+12) as Barnes shot an 84 (+12) and a 72 (E) while Grassotti shot a 74 (+2) and an 82 (+10). Freshman Evan Hong (Houston, Texas) rounded out the scores for the Clippers with an 84 (+12) and a 75 (+3) to place T-30 with a 159 (+15).
Concordia will next travel to The ACE Club in Lafayette Hill, Pa., for its tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Tee times will be determined.
