Concordia Men's Basketball Team Clinches Cacc Championship Tourney Berth

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- The Concordia College men's basketball team clinched its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament berth since 2012 with an 87-58 victory over visiting Caldwell University on Wednesday evening.

The Cougars began the first half with an early lead, 6-2, but Concordia would use a 10-0 run to open up a 12-6 advantage at the 15:41 mark. Caldwell would then use a 9-2 run to regain its advantage, 15-14, with 13:15 to go in the period. 

Once again the Clippers would use a run to open up their lead, this time 11 unanswered points to take a 10-point advantage at 25-15. By the 5:19 mark the Cougars had cut the deficit to four points at 32-28. Concordia ended the half on a 11-6 run as the Clippers went into the locker room with a 43-34 lead. 

In the second half Concordia came out on fire shooting the ball as the team began with a 13-5 run to hold a 56-39 lead with 16:44 to go. The Clippers then used two 9-0 runs separated by a three-point basket for Caldwell to open up a 74-47 gap midway through the half. Concordia never looked back and went on to take the 87-58 victory and clinch a CACC Championship Tournament berth. 

The Clippers were led by Peter Aguilar offensively as the recorded 24 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. Freshman Stephen Milhaven chipped in with 19 points and nine rebounds while junior Jalen Heath finished with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Sophomore Justyn Gardner came off the bench to score 10 points and add seven rebounds. Concordia (13-14, 10-8 CACC) will close out their regular season on the road Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
