Bronxville's Cain Home From World Track Meet

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Bronxville's world-class middle distance high school runner Mary Cain returned from her first world competition this week after placing sixth in the 1,500-meter distance in the International Association of Athletics Federation World Junior Championships in Barcelona.

"It was just an amazing experience," said Cain, who appeared on a Fox News' Good Day New York Thursday morning.

Cain, who is entering junior year at Bronxville High, clocked a personal best time of 4:11.01, the best for a high school runner in the U.S. this year and a new national record for a 16-year-old. She also impressed U.S. Track Team Coach Megan Watson, who said Cain was one of the most mature and poised runners she has coached at the national level.

"Mary is, without a doubt, one of the nicest, most focused distance athletes I have been around on the national teams," said Thomas. who coaches in Texas. "She seemed so comfortable no matter what she was doing."
