Bronxville Hosts Hastings For Class C Matchup

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Last week’s heart-throbbing, fourth-quarter 15-14 comeback victory over Dobbs gave Bronxville’s defending Class C state champion football team its 13th consecutive victory and a needed lift going into Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. game against visiting Hastings.

The Broncos (1-0) trailed Dobbs Ferry 14-0 last week before running back Christian Conway took over in the fourth quarter, rolling for two touchdowns and a game-winning two-point conversion with less than three minutes remaining in the game to pull out the win.

Conway finished with 124 rushing yards. Bronxville lost the giant four starting two-way linemen who were the anchor over a two-year 23-1 record, along with starting quarterback Dillon Mitchell and wideout Jack Near, but retained their backfield of Christian and Jackson Conway and a younger group of linemen who have size if not experience.

Max Boyd made his first start at quarterback for Bronxville, completing 3 of 9 passes for 19 yards and adding 18 yards on the ground. Last week’s experience against a good Dobbs Ferry team will help him this week.

The Jackets are led by captains quarterback Joe Tarricone and halfback Brandon Abrahante, who combined for 108 rushing yards and two scores against Pawling. Tarricone completed 5 of 12 passes for 59 yards and a touchdown strike to Matt Adipietro.

The Hastings defense is always well coached and quick to the ball, but a lack of size may hurt against the Conway brothers’ grueling ground game and a bigger front line.

Bronxville should be able to move the ball better than it did last week and Hastings’ inexperienced lineup got a big boost with its opening-day win.
