The team finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.63) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:08.77) in the federation (all private and public schools) and won the state (all public schools) title in the 400-yard freestyle relay, according to a release from the Bronxville Union Free School District. Their times in both events are in consideration for all-American status.

Bronxville High School’s Andrew Babyak, a junior, and Tim Cushman, a sophomore, were both members of the relay teams.

In addition to the team titles, Babyak won the 500-yard freestyle state and federation titles. His time of 4:26.26 is an automatic all-American time, the release said. He also placed sixth in the state and 10th in the federation in the 200-yard freestyle individual event.

Cushman placed 15th in the state and 18th in the federation in the 100-yard backstroke individual event, and 15th in the state and 21st in the federation in the 200-yard freestyle.

All state champions are members of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, while the federation includes all swimmers from public and private schools statewide, according to the release.

Babyak and Cushman qualified for the New York State Championship following an outstanding performance at the Section I Boys Swimming Championship finals, which took place at Felix Festa Middle School in West Nyack on Feb. 8.

At that meet, Babyak placed first in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle individual events, while Cushman finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle. They were also the recipients of a gold medal in the 200-yard freestyle relay and a silver medal in the 400-yard freestyle relay as members of the team.

Other outstanding performances by Bronxville High School swimmers included Aidan Flannery, who placed sixth in the 500-yard freestyle and 11th in the 200-yard freestyle; Mark Sears, who placed eighth in sectional diving, and Zach Flangos, who placed 16th in sectional diving.
