Bronxville Defense Shuts Down Edgemont, 54-27

SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Prior to the start of the second quarter, Bronxville's varsity boys basketball coach Brian Senior discussed what he wanted from his team.

“He wanted us to lock it up defensively, push it hard on offense and if we had the open shot, take it,” Bronxville forward Jack Aherne said.

The Broncos carried out their coach’s request, especially on defense, against host Edgemont. Bronxville clamped down defensively on its way to a 54-27 victory Wednesday.

The Broncos, now 4-4 after snapping a two-game skid, limited Edgemont to 17 points over the last three quarters. Matt Tormey and Aherne each finished with 13 points and Dylan Murray added nine.

Bronxville led 15-10 after the first quarter as Jack Keeny kept Edgemont close with seven points. Aherne and his teammates understood what they needed to do.

“Coming into the game we had a little of a flat practice yesterday after coming off of a pretty tough game with Dobbs Ferry,” Aherne said. “We were a little too confident coming in, but we knew Edgemont is a very good team and we had to step it up.”

Murray did this in the second quarter, outscoring Edgemont on his own -- seven to six. As a result, Bronxville went into halftime with a 14-point advantage -- 30-16.

“It was a group effort on defense because we all worked real well together,” Aherne said.

Jack Keeny led Edgemont with 12 points and Paul Emdin added 10.
