BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — Kevin Pearce, a 2010 Winter Olympics snowboard hopeful who suffered a traumatic brain injury that altered the course of his life, recently gave a talk at Bronxville High School.

Pearce's long road to recovery since has become the subject of an HBO documentary, "The Crash Reel," and the Love Your Brain social movement.

Students screened the documentary and then listened to Pearce tell his story.

Pearce was considered a lock to make the 2010 U.S. Olympic team, but a traumatic brain injury suffered in training landed him in critical care for 34 days. Two years later, after doctors forced him to retire, his memory still was impaired and major eye surgery was needed.

He has since founded the Love Your Brain movement, which brings people together to connect, educate and empower through a mindful approach that concentrates on brain injury prevention and rehabilitation.

His talk focused on the ways to help keep a brain strong, with meditation, yoga and being mindful of positive thoughts which promote healthy cerebellum activity, confidence and the ability to let things go.
