Two Thiel Fellows kicked off the evening with presentations about their own creative projects.
Eden Full described the way she developed SunSaluter, a rotating solar panel powered by water, not electricity. The invention has special applications for developing countries. Her theme was the value of persistence.
Maddy Maxey, also a Thiel Fellow, showed some of the wearable technology she has developed. She emphasized the value of curiosity and capitalizing on one's capacity for growth.
Thiel Fellowships are two-year grants of $100,000 to help young innovators develop their ideas. More information about Thiel Fellowships can be found at http://www.thielfellowship.org/.
The rest of the evening was devoted to small-group workshops, led by students, teachers and parents. Each session was designed as an interactive experience involving creative applications of ideas. Some of the sessions included creative writing, musical improvisation, filmmaking, life-size tangrams, building a robot, designing a bridge and working with 3-D printers.
