Bronxville's County Tax Rate Stays Flat

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Bronxville residents will see no increase in their county taxes this year and only a minimal hike in their town tax rate.

Westchester County Legislator Gordon Burrows tells the Bronxville Board of Trustees that Westchester County's 2013 budget calls for a zero percent increase in taxes for Bronxville.

Westchester County's 2013 budget calls for no increase in taxes for Bronxville, according to Westchester County Legislator Gordon Burrows. Meanwhile, Eastchester Town Councilman Glenn Bellitto said the town's 2013 tax rate for Bronxville will increase just 0.27 percent.

"We're very happy and proud to say that we have kept county taxes in Bronxville from increasing," Burrows said, crediting County Executive Rob Astorino for his efforts. "We've managed to keep the taxes low without forfeiting any major programs and services that benefit residents. Not only is our budget low, but it's also good for residents."

Whenever anything having to do with taxes is zero, it’s a good thing, Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin said.

"I always think that, with a good hard look, you can always find something that's padded or not needed to save money," said Marvin. "We recently trimmed a part-time job and saved about $30,000, but in that same week we got our MTA tax bill for the same amount. Money is very important to everyone right now with the economy being so rough. Just as how our government likes to save money when possible, our residents do, too.”

Bronxville pays out about $8 million every year in county taxes, Village Administrator Harold Porr said.

"We do this without receiving any county services like parks or roads," said Porr. "We would love to see our money go to something that we could say is our own, but that’s another story. We're just happy to see that what's being done hasn't increased any taxes, and that's the most we can ask for."
