Paulin is scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. at the offices of Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester at 311 North St. in White Plains. Paulin will talk about the Compassionate Care Act (CCA), which would allow the use of medical marijuana as part of treatment for a specified group of illnesses. The Assembly is expected to add the CCA to the one-house budget via a vote on Wednesday, March 12.
Legislators scheduled to attend include Assemblymen Thomas Abinanti (D-92), David Buchwald (D-93) along with Assemblywoman Sandy Galef (D-95). Others invited include Assemblymen Steve Katz (D-94), Gary Pretlow (D-89) and Steve Otis (D-91). State Senators invited include George Latimer (D-37), Jeffrey Klein (D-34), David Carlucci (D-38) and Ruth Hassell-Thompson (D-36), representatives said.
“The medical benefits that can be derived from marijuana are far too great to ignore any longer,” Paulin said. “There are so many people suffering from a variety of diseases where medical marijuana would make a huge difference in their quality of life. We need to pass this legislation to help the thousands of patients that need specific strains of marijuana, such as children with Dravet's Syndrome."
Twenty states allow medical marijuana. Every state in the northeast allows the use of medical marijuana except New York and Pennsylvania. A Quinnipiac University poll in February found that 88 percent of New York State voters supported the legalization of medical marijuana, representatives said in a release.
