Wolfgang Spitzer, 90, Bronxville Professor

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Wolfgang Spitzer of Bronxville died Jan. 14. He was 90.

He was born May 11, 1922, in Bonn, Germany. He attended Oberlin College and then went to Harvard University on the G.I. Bill after serving in the Army in intelligence from 1942 to 1945.

Spitzer worked as a professor of French literature at Sarah Lawrence College for 37 years. He married his wife, Cecily, in 1958.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jennie Schaeffer and Numi (Glenn) Mitchell; and two grandsons. He was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne Marie Spitzer.

A memorial service will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester. Memorial contributions may be made to C.A.R.E. Gift Center, P.O. Box 7039, Merrifield VA 22116.
