Sarah Lawrence College Offering Mini Courses

YONKERS, N.Y. – Sarah Lawrence College will offer “The Anatomy of Catastrophes and Black Swan Events: Warnings Ignored or Misperceived,” and “Music and Metaphysical Impulse” from Jan. 14 through Jan. 16.

Vice President of Administration Tom Blum will teach the mini course on catastrophes. The seminar will study the factors that lowered the capacity of scientists, government leaders and others to prevent catastrophic or near catastrophic events. It will cover topics including the Space Shuttle Program and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon.

Music faculty member Martin Goldray will teach the music course.  

Goldray’s seminar will examine how works of Western classical tradition influenced metaphysical and spiritual ideas. Composers studied will include Bach, Beethoven, Wagner and Stravinsky. This class meets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Goldray is a Fulbright scholar, pianist, and conductor.
