WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - The retired Bronxville Police Sergeant that was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in Florida earlier this month remains in critical condition as he continues recovering from his injuries.

Retired Bronxville Police Sgt. Anthony Deleo, now working as a deputy for the St. John’s County Sheriff’s Department in Florida, was hospitalized after being involved in a motorcycle crash on July 14, according to reports out of Florida, which Bronxville police officials confirmed.

According to reports, Deleo was traveling on County Road 210 when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a tree. He was thrown from his vehicle and struck a concrete utility pole. Deleo was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital by helicopter, but is expected to survive.

Deleo has since undergone multiple surgeries, and an MRI of his knee revealed a torn meniscus, ACL, PCL and MCL, which will require reconstructive knee surgery in several weeks after he recovers from other injuries. He is scheduled for additional surgery for grafting in the beginning of August. Loved ones stated there is a 40 percent chance he loses a leg.

A GoFundMe fundraising campaign has since been started to help his family offset the costs of his lengthy hospital stay. More than $16,000 was raised in less than a week.

Deleo had been a sergeant in Bronxville for several years before he moved south to St. John’s County to serve as a Sheriff’s deputy three years ago.
