NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Few physical therapists can provide the level of personalized attention Stacey Rittenberg and Delali Goka of New Rochelle give their patients.
The two doctors run A Healthier You, a personalized at-home physical therapy service, founded in 2007, for lower Westchester and Fairfield counties .
Though the company is based in New Rochelle, the two therapists make four to six home visits each on a day-to-day basis.
Rittenberg, who holds her doctorate in physical therapy along with special board certifications in neurology, said adults, mostly seniors, are their most common clients.
"Oftentimes our clients are people that have a condition or have had a surgery," she said, "Sometimes they are people who are going to have one. But we also get plenty of people that are hitting retirement age and want to learn how to stay healthy."
Because Rittenberg's focus is on neurology, she works with many patients who have neurological conditions such as strokes, Parkinson's disease and vertigo.
They additionally offer prevention and wellness services for people who don't necessarily have medical conditions but want to take charge of their health, balance and well-being.
"They just want to make sure they are physically active and maintaining their levels of function," she said.
According to Rittenberg, one of the biggest benefits of at-home therapy is being able to design therapy around the patient's unique circumstances.
"We get very creative in using what they have in their environment. There are pros and cons going to a clinic but, when you're in your home in your own space...," she said.
She added, "A clinic therapist has never seen your house. They can't always give you the right advice for your environment. They can tell you how to get out of a chair in the clinic, but it doesn't necessarily translate to what you have to do in real life."
Rittenberg explained that everything about the therapy sessions is customized based on what the patient's goals are, their level of function and what is safe and appropriate for each individual.
"We've heard from people that the quality of at-home physical therapy in the area is sub-standard. But, they are pleased with our quality," she said.
Additionally, unlike many therapy services, they accept Medicare part B.
"Any person that gets coverage through Medicare, our service goes through their insurance. Whatever their insurance pays, we accept," she said.
Additionally, they offer therapy at two different sets of private rates: one set for skilled physical therapy, and one set for prevention and wellness services, which are given reduced rate because the care may be longer-term.
The therapists also do wellness and community events.
"We are available to do free screenings at organizations and fairs. We often speak at senior centers and churches presentations," she said.
