Speaker Discusses Job Teaching Refugees With Bronxville Students

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- A visiting speaker who taught English to refugee children in the Middle East talked to middle-schoolers at The Chapel School in Bronxville about her experiences during a Dec. 2 assembly.

The woman can speak three languages and has visited 29 countries. She shared photos and stories with the students.

"When you watch the news or read a newspaper," said Mauro DeCillis, a seventh-grader, "it can be easy to let fear lead to prejudice. But, these refugees are scared themselves and it is good to know that there are people like (the visiting teacher) who have dedicated their lives to helping them."
