The JLB and the Food Bank for Westchester have partnered throughout the years on many JLB Outreach programs.

JLB’s Mobile Food Pantry program is the newest partnership and works in conjunction with the Food Bank for Westchester’s Kraft Mobile Food Pantry. The KMFP is a 36-foot refrigerated truck that serves as a “market on wheels,” bringing fresh meat, dairy products, and fresh vegetables to underserved communities. JLB sponsors one KMFP every month, providing fresh food to about two hundred families.

JLB volunteers distribute the food each month.

“Helping families in need by providing fresh, healthy foods is our primary focus. The JLB is constantly striving to help more at risk families right here in Southern Westchester. Through the money raised at our April 25 fundraiser, we will be able to provide hundreds more families with the food they need,” said JLB President, Erica Sevilla.

The JLB’s vision is to alleviate hunger and improve nutrition in Southern Westchester. It is estimated about one in five of the population is hungry or at risk of hunger.

The Junior League of Bronxville Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of the Food Bank for Westchester trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

The “Feed the Need” fundraiser promises to be an evening of fun and excitement, featuring a culinary competition amongst some Junior League participants to help raise additional money. A mystery box, complete with ingredients typical of those provided to families in need by the KMFP, will be presented to each team to prepare a healthy and delicious dish on the spot.

The event will culminate with guests doing a taste test and submitting votes for best dish. The reception will be hosted at the home of Ellen and Chuck Bryceland, in Bronxville. Proceeds raised will support the JLB’s Mobile Food Pantry Program.
