Last month, the 16-year-old became the first high school student to win a national indoor or outdoor championship in a decade at a meet in Albuquerque, N.M.
Cain has also broken the national record for the girl’s indoor two-mile event, coming in at 9:38.68, nearly 20 seconds quicker than the previous record. In January, she set the record in the mile for a high school student, running it in 4:32.78.
The Bronxville high school junior is currently the third-ranked runner in the state on tullyrunners.com. County Executive Rob Astorino is expected to mention Cain during his State of the County address on April 23.
