Shortly after noon on Sunday, the family was walking near the Starbucks on Park Place when the toddler approached a dog tied to a light post when the pup got over excited and tackled him, biting his chin, puncturing the skin.

The panicked parents subsequently rushed their child to nearby Lawrence Hospital, where he was treated. Doctors warned that they have a 10-day window to ensure that the dog is properly vaccinated, otherwise their son may have to get a series of precautionary shots.

The dog has been described as a small to mid-sized Jack Russell Terrier mix, with a white coat and “very wiry” fur.

According to the parents, in their haste to seek treatment for the bite, they failed to speak with the owners of the dog and are now seeking contact information merely to ensure that the dog is up-to-date on its vaccinations so they can move forward from the incident. A police report has been filed, and posters will soon be posted throughout the village as the parents attempt to assuage their worries.
