ANDRUS organized a backpack Ppogram, where a pair of Bronxville businesses have been collecting elementary- and middle school-appropriate backpacks that are fully stocked with standard supplies, such as pencils, binders and crayons.
Backpacks can be dropped off at Bronxville Ley Real Estate on Park Place and Houlihan and O’Malley Real Estate on Parkway Road in Bronxville through Aug. 15.
All donations will support children in the special education Orchard School, mental health clinics and various other early childhood, after-school and community programs. Officials at ANDRUS plan to supply as many as 2,500 children at their 14 Westchester County sites.
Items that should be used to fill backpacks for children in kindergarten through sixth grade include three notebooks, a pair of folders, a calculator, glue stick and various writing utensils.
For middle school students in grades 7-9, backpacks should be filled with a binder, colored tab dividers, paper, notebooks, a plastic ruler and more age-appropriate items for teenagers.
Backpacks will not be accepted if they have scissors, pencil sharpeners, metal rulers, metal compasses or other potentially dangerous items. A complete list of what ANDRUS is looking for can be found online.
