Bariatric surgery is an operation on the stomach and/or intestines which helps obese patients lose weight. The event, at The Field Club, 40 Locust Lane in Bronxville, is a chance to meet with former patients to celebrate their new-found health and discover how weight loss surgery at Lawrence has given them a new lease on life.
At the celebration, former Lawrence bariatric surgery patients will reconnect with surgeons, dietitians, operating room nurses and other staff. The annual gathering will also feature music, dinner and dancing.
Lawrence's Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery offers a full range of weight loss surgeries, including laparoscopic gastric banding, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic gastric bypass. Lawrence's network of care stays with its patients for life, helping them through challenges and celebrating triumphs.
“There has to be a nucleus of support structures around patients to help them succeed,” says Dr. Miguel Silva, chief of Surgery and division chief of the Center for Advanced Surgery at Lawrence Hospital Center. “This nucleus includes a nutritionist to educate them about healthy eating habits, support groups where they can share personal stories and tips, a psychologist, and a nurse practitioner to guide them through the process.”
