What’s Happening Around Bronxville This Weekend

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – A weekend-long poetry festival, middle and high-school presentation of “Beauty and the Beast” and string orchestra performances are some of the events planned in and around Bronxville this weekend. Please see our events calendar for additional activities in the area.

Friday, April 20

Sarah Lawrence College Poetry Festival: 1 p.m. Readings by Sarah Lawrence students, alums and poets from around the world, and a number of receptions and panel discussions are some of the highlights of the 2012 festival. The events take place at various locations on the Sarah Lawrence College campus, starting at 1 p.m. and continuing on until 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The college is located at 1 Mead Way.

"Beauty and the Beast": 7:30 p.m. The classic Disney musical is presented by the Eastchester High School Players Club. The cost is $12 for adults, $8 for students, and advance sales have closed. Some tickets will be available at the door. Eastchester High School, 580 White Plains Road.

Sarah Lawrence String Orchestra: 8 p.m. Sungrai Sohn conducts the Sarah Lawrence String Orchestra. For more information, call 914-395-2412. Sarah Lawrence College's Reisinger Concert Hall, 1 Mead Way, Bronxville.

Saturday, April 21

Indoor Farmers Market: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Shop for fresh produce and more at the farmers market at 1 Pondfield Road.

"Beauty and the Beast": 2 p.m. Last chance to see the classic Disney musical presented by the Eastchester High School Players Club. The cost is $12 per adult, $8 per student and advance sales have closed. Some tickets are available at the door. Eastchester High School, 580 White Plains Road.

Cassatt Quartet: 3 p.m. Scarsdale composer Gerald Cohen's "Playing for Our Lives" will be among the featured pieces when the Cassatt String Quartet plays at Shaarei Tikvah. The synagogue's annual concert also is Shaarei Tikvah's observance of Yom Hashoah — Holocaust Remembrance Day. The concert is open to the public, no tickets required. A $20 suggested donation will be welcomed at the door – part of the proceeds will go to the Anne Frank Center in New York City. 46 Fox Meadow Road, Scarsdale.

Sarah Lawrence String Orchestra: 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Conductor Sungrai Sohn will lead the orchestra’s performance of Vivaldi’s “Spring” and Gershwin’s “Lullaby,” among other classics. Reisinger Concert Hall, 1 Mead Way.
