BRONXVILLE, N.Y. ? Bronxville High School continued its dominance of girls cross country Saturday, winning its fifth straight Class C state championship.

"As good as you are, it is always a great relief and joy to return home as state champions," said Bronxville coach Jim Mitchell, who has led the Broncos to 11 state titles beginning in 1983. "It was a great race by Kaitlin [Ryan] in her first state championship to lead the team and  a determined effort by Emilie [Hoffer] to get an individual medal and an important top-20 finish.

Ryan led the Broncos, taking fifth place overall in the 5,000-meter event at Elma Meadows Golf Course in Buffalo in 19:12.5. Hoffer came in 17th in 19:38 to lift Bronxville over second-place Tully High School. The Broncos earned 36 points, to 78 for Tully and 110 for third-place Newark Valley.

Delia Hayes (19:49.5) was 21st, Morgan Nobles (19:54.5) 23rd, Courtney Campbell (19:58.87) 26th, Argentina Chrappa (20:01.9) 30th and Hilary Rizzo  32nd overall in a time of 20:03.5.

"It was a gutsy race by Delia, the best race ever and a strong closing straight by Courtney to finish our scoring and seal the championship," Mitchell said. "Argentina and Hilary very narrowly missing a sub 20 [minutes]. It was a great team effort to win the championship, and the 42 point margin of victory was the most ever by a Bronxville team."

The Broncos compete next at the New York State Federation Cross Country Meet at Bowdoin State Park in Wappingers Falls at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. The race includes teams from parochial, private and New York City schools.
