On Thursday, voters overwhelmingly approved a flood mitigation plan years in the making, but narrowly determined that a reorientation of Hayes Field was unnecessary.
The first proposition on Thursday’s special election ballot, a joint village and school district project that required voters to approve sharing the cost of a $7 million (approximately $850,000 split amongst homeowners) easily passed with an 868 to 55 vote.
However, the second proposition, which would have seen a synthetic turf field installed at Hayes Field was rejected, 470 to 452. The plan called for additional parking and would have served as a necessary playing field for children, as the village looks for additional spaces.
More details about the propositions can be found here.
