The center, on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan, has 100 showrooms representing more than 500 lines of fine, traditional, contemporary and other furniture.
It also houses fabric, floor and wall coverings, lighting, kitchen and bath accessories and decorative items.
The students, who are studying interior design, architecture and pre-engineering, toured the center in October.
The tour was arranged by BOCES architecture and design teacher Christine Ireland, who once worked at the center.
Students learned about the 1926 building’s history. It originally catered to department and retail store buyers.
They visited the showrooms in small groups, taking pictures of their favorite designs and taking notes.
Pre-engineering instructor Letizia Noce and guidance counselor Anna Macchia also accompanied the students.
“The students were inspired and excited to see what’s involved in designing and working with high-end furniture,” Ireland said.
“They returned with lots of photos and were asking when our next trip would be. I think it was a great way to begin the school year!”
