CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. With the look of the business district in downtown Chappaqua constantly changing, one symbol of consistency throughout has been Tony Ciccones South Greeley Barber Shop on King Street.
Tonys a staple in town. As long as Ive been around town, Tonys been there, said Eve Spence, co-owner of Auntie Penny. "That's something to be thankful for."
Last Wednesday, Ciccone celebrated his 50th year as a resident of Chappaqua. Originally from Italy, he left Mt. Kisco for Chappaqua in 1961 shortly after meeting his wife, and said he has never looked back.
I came to Mt. Kisco and got married here in Chappaqua and Im still here, said Ciccone. A lot of things can happen in 50 years but good things, nothing bad.
Ciccone will be celebrating another anniversary next month, when it will be 40 years since taking ownership of his shop. Almost immediately upon his arrival in Chappaqua, Ciccone began cutting hair. After working for other shops for a few years, he took over Greeley Barber Shop in Dec. 1971.
The town doesnt change much, people are changing, Ciccone said. One person, however, Ciccone said, has never changed. In his 40-plus years of working in Chappaqua, he said that at least one customer has been a regular the entire time.
From his returning customers, to praise from fellow store owners, locals say Ciccone has impacted King Street and throughout Chappaqua. Hes the nicest guy in the world. We love him, said Spence.
