Patricia Mackey of Mount Vernon was killed around 5:30 p.m. Monday while walking home from work, according to Maria Donovan, spokeswoman for the Mount Vernon Police.

Police say Mackey was struck on South Ninth Avenue in Mount Vernon near First Street when a gold Honda jumped the curb while in reverse, hit Mackey, and hit a brick wall while dragging her, pinned under the car.

First responders had to jack up the vehicle to rescue Mackey, who was later pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The accident is under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
