Bronxville Police responded to a 911 call of an apartment burglary on Kensington Road on July 1, 2014.

The apartment had been entered by breaking a ground floor bedroom window, police said. Stolen from within the apartment were two firearms and jewelry. Detective William Carroll and Sergeant Nicholas DeYoung processed the crime scene and collected blood evidence which was submitted to the Westchester County Division of Forensic Sciences for examination.

The blood sample he collected at the crime scene matched a known sample in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) belonging to Carmelo Rivera.
