Dorothy Greenlee, 91, Former Bronxville Resident

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Dorothy Greenlee, 91, of Mystic, Conn. and Block Island, R.I. died on Nov. 8,at StoneRidge Assisted Living.  She formerly resided in Bronxville.

She was the wife of the late Dr. Ralph Greenlee, who was the chief of surgery at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville for nearly 40 years.

Born in Cuba in 1922, daughter of the late Bernard and Phyllis Frisbie, Greenlee had been a full time resident of Block Island since 1981 before moving to Mystic.  

Dorothy and her husband sailed extensively during their years together – sailing across the Atlantic several times, racing to Bermuda and between Buenos Aires and Rio, even sailing from Key West to Cuba, Dorothy’s birthplace, in 1989.  Besides sailing, Dorothy and her husband spent two occasions volunteering at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Deschappelles, Haiti.  She loved  traveling and poetry, and was an accomplished gardener who worked with the New York Botanical Garden.

Dorothy leaves three children, Phyllis Potter of Oakland;, Christine Allaire of Pawcatuck, Connecticut and Dr. Robert Greenlee of Westerly, R.I.  She also leaves six grandchildren and one great granddaughter in Tallahassee, Fla..

There will be a private family burial in the Island Cemetery on Block Island and an informal remembrance gathering in the spring.
