Steven Ircha Jr., Christopher Carley, Will Tarry and Asgede were celebrated at a traditional Boy Scout’s ceremony at the Reformed Church of Bronxville on Sunday night.
The Eagle Scout is the highest and most prestigious rank awarded to a senior scout in the Boy Scouts. According to the Boy Scouts, only 4 percent of scouts earn this distinction.
To achieve the honor, each scout had to progress through six previous ranks, earning no less than 21 merit badges that include first aid, citizenship, communications, personal fitness, camping and other life skills.
Each of the four scouts had to serve at least one year in a series of leadership positions. They also had to plan, develop and lead a service project that benefitted a local community organization. Lastly, the scouts had to attend a Scoutmaster conference and be evaluated by an Eagle Scout Board of Review.
Ircha is a high honor student-athlete at Bronxville High School, where he has earned distinction in football, track and lacrosse. He has led the “Toys for Tots” gift collection drive in the village for the past two years. For his service project, Ircha led a volunteer workforce of more than two dozen to repair cabins at a religious retreat in Pennsylvania.
Carley is a junior student-athlete at Regis High School where he competes in cross country, indoor track and baseball. For his service project, he led 25 fellow scouts and volunteers to construct a garden for the Convent of Mary the Queen in Yonkers.
Tarry, a senior at Bronxville High School, is the recipient of two local scholarship awards: the Michael Frey and Richard V. Jones Scholarship. He will attend Davidson College in the fall. For his service project, Tarry assisted the Bronxville Veteran’s Memorial Committee in verifying the service records of more than 1,000 veterans, raising money to create a permanent veteran’s memorial in the village and conducting interviews with local veterans about their time in the service.
Teckie, a freshman engineering major at Manhattan College, was an honors graduate from Iona Preparatory School. He led and organized the Leukemia Walk Team that participated in the “Light the Night” walk at Rye Playland. For his final project, Teckie led volunteers through a project that took two months of planning and preparation, and four days of implementation.
