I like the idea of deer birth control darting and it should be part of any deer management solution. But let's not pretend that targeted hunting can't work too. Somehow, we're supposed to believe that hunting can lead to the control, endangerment or even extinction of every other species of animal, but not deer??? That's laughable. Nice try, Nature Lover... Hunters don't dictate what we do town by town. The state has a say in it too. Hunters go where the deer are. Perhaps we should stop limiting the number of deer we allow them to take? Or... at least up the number. In the Pound Ridge reservation it has been learned that we're near 60 deer per square mile... when the number we need to be at (for humans, our landscape and the health of the herd) is 16 deer per square mile. Don't blame the hunters. Bring more in and have them taking does and bucks. Our urban sprawl is to blame. The natural predators are not here anymore. All solutions need to be on the table. Sterilize them, hunt them, whatever it takes. View Comment

Republicans aren't in it for the benefits. You must have them confused with the other party. He could care less about that. He is a veteran and kind of a raw guy. It was too bad he wasn't calm and eloquent. That made him ineffective against that smarmy Morgan. At least he didn't backpedal on what he wrote (like every other politician would have). It was not standing room only --I was there. Half the seats were empty. Still... each person was told they had to 'reserve' a seat beforehand. The only person standing was the photographer who snapped 100 pictures. This is what I'm getting at with this group. Why the incessant positive PR on every move made? Who might this be benefiting? What isn't discussed in this article is that this plan has multiple phases to it and that the group would like some form of lighting from the New Canaan border all the way to Pound Ridge Town Park. Also, the Fred Albano comment is misleading. It had not yet been determined by meeting time what portion of the lighting fixtures are owned by the town as opposed to the business district. And... NYSEG owns the heads of these fixtures, so if something happens to them now, NYSEG comes and make the repairs. If these fixtures are replaced by the town, then the town will now be on the hook for repairs in the future. You would've thought the committee would have determined this breakdown before they embarked on such a project (and asked for donations) over a year ago. If indeed general taxes for something like this (a "nice to have" not a "need to have") will never be tapped into, then it's something we can all get behind. Otherwise, proceed with caution because this will undoubtedly go over budget. The committee does not have all the large cost components ironed out yet in their estimate. And if we go beyond the business district with lighting, then general taxpayer funding is in play... which it should not be. View Comment

The state of NY will go bankrupt with or without gay marriage. Nice try, though. No one should hate anyone for their skin color, sexuality or otherwise. But, at the same time, no one should brandish someone a "hater" just because they don't believe same sex couples are the same as heterosexual ones. They're not. They're different. I'm not a monster for hoping my kids are straight and marry members of the opposite sex. Guess what... everyone hopes that. I wonder why that is? The Clintons are the scourge. Whatever is politically expedient is what works for them... every day of every week of every year. Now 20+ years of revolting me. View Comment

What constitutes a "news story" on this site? It's news that a LGBT center wants marriage equality from the Supreme Court??? No, it's not. Everyone knows that's what they want. The Supreme Court should never have taken this case. It's not a constitutional issue. And there should've never been a federal defense of marriage act. What are we talking about here, the label itself? The definition of the word marriage? By it's nature, homosexuality is different than heterosexuality --so why obsess over what the word marriage means? Since we stood upright, it's been known as the formal union of a man and a woman by which they become husband and wife. 4% of the population shouldn't tell the other 96% that their unions should be viewed the same exact way... b/c they're not the same. Can I teach my kids that marriage is between a man and a woman, while teaching them not to discriminate against the few they might meet who don't go down that path? I'm certainly going to try. Because that's what I want for them. Even gay couples want that (a traditional marriage) for their children. Let's stop making it a national issue --because it's not. View Comment

I think most people in town would like a security/police officer at PRES -- especially those with children in the school. Let's put it to a vote. This should be on the ballot in November if we can't get this done now (which we should be able to). Think of all the other provisions that have been on town ballots in the past. None are more important. Also, I think we should know where our board members stand on this issue. They are elected officials --and some are up for reelection. I have heard Ms. Boak is opposed to having an officer at PRES. Where do the other board members stand? The responsible approach is the one that makes our children safest. I think we know which "approach" that is. I don't care if the officer is in uniform or in plain clothes. It makes no difference to this parent. I want the deterrent and added security. I know of several other local towns that got this done within weeks. We are going on two months... tick-tock. View Comment

Yes, The Sierra Club knows just how "dirty" this pipeline project will be. They are well-equipped to make this assessment. A good use of their time--and really relevant press here. Lisa and her minions are the types of people that make it painful to live in Westchester and make the experience of filling your car up at the pump equally nauseating. The tens of thousands of jobs this project will create is not mentioned in this story, nor is the fact that we have hundreds of pipelines running through the center of the country already. Perhaps NY State would be a cheaper place to live if we allowed for more energy exploration here. It can be done in an environmentally responsible way, but eco-terrorists prevent all rational debate and balanced approaches. We should be fracking just like PA and many other states are. Will Lisa be protesting the 535 million of TAXPAYER dollars that Barack Obama gave to Solydra that vanished? Now, that would be worth covering. This story is a waste of everyone's time. View Comment

Terri, unless my reading comprehension skills have deteriorated (like those lamp posts)... there is no misunderstanding? "Pike said her committee has selected Louis Fusco, a local landscape architect to lead the project. She said the money raised from Wednesday’s event will be put primarily toward consulting fees. The actually cost of the street lights and their installation is still not known." I'm a volunteer in town too. My fee is $0. If Louis is generously donating his time on this project for free... then that's great. No one reading the article would pick that up, however. So, then... I have to ask: where is the $7,000 going? You were just quoted in the article as saying that it would go primarily towards "consulting fees." Who are the consultants? The other misunderstanding that exists is how one would get an invite to this charity event at Richard's restaurant the other night? I casually asked about a dozen people at basketball this morning if they heard anything about it... nada. We all read the paper, the websites, e-newsletters, see signs around Scott's Corner. Was it invite only? In the end, I guess we'll all be able to see where each dollar goes since the PR Partnership just received it's charitable status last month. View Comment

I'm a little late to the game on this article and 'issue'... but..... A study on dumpsters? There are town codes. Enforce them. If a business owner violates them with respect to dumpsters... fine them until they comply. Once they comply, problem solved. No need for a 3-pronged study on throwing garbage in a big metal bin... and then taking credit for something that NO OTHER town needs to do. I feel like I've entered bizarro world. I really hope that taxpayer money wasn't involved in the ultimate fixes here. Btw... you should probably get a huge dumpster to get all that trash off the sidewalk in front of Sanford & Son's, I mean, Antiques and Tools of Business store. I'm sorry to rain on your parade here, but we need a fundraiser to change street lights? Isn't this just a typical expense that is earmarked somewhere in the town budget under maintenance --like every other town? I know Ali wants to pad the ol' resume for that supervisor run, but c'mon. What's next, decorative fire hydrants? Eight different designs for a lamp post? (and that's narrowed down!) And then... as you read down... the $7,000 isn't even going towards the hardware. It's going to Louis to "consult" on what we should do about 13 lights. I'll get a gaggle of creative PR residents together and we'll have it figured out in 30 minutes. Throw us a couple bottles of Barolo to sip while we do it --and we're even. You keep $6,900. I do like the idea of putting a plaque at each pole if sponsors (and not the taxpayers) want to pay for it. View Comment
