Last week, dozens of sports teams from throughout the Hudson Valley suited up in their school colors and took the trip to Duchess Stadium, where they were paraded and celebrated by a packed crowd.

With elementary school cheerleaders working the crowd into a frenzy from the infield, student-athletes mingled with players, played catch with the pros and were entertained by the Renegades’ raccoon mascots: Rookie, Raccoon, Rookie’s wife Rene Gade and their son, Rascal.

The celebration lasted well into the night, as the Renegades (12-12) easily dispatched West Virginia Black Bears 6-1 behind a strong start by Travis Ott and a pair of two-out RBIs from leadoff hitter Ryan Boldt. After the game, kids - champions or not - ran the bases while the players signed autographs for the remaining members of the crowd.
