Three Concordia Tennis Players Honored With Regional Awards

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Concordia College tennis players Linda Eliasson, Rafael Ferreira, and Ofir Ginat, all seniors, received East Region awards on Thursday, May 19, from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Eliasson was named the ITA Women's Senior Player of the Year after helping the Clippers to the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time since 2014 as she held a 10-3 overall record in singles play and a 16-2 record in doubles. She is currently the eighth-ranked singles player in the East Region and alongside freshman Kaja Tegtmeier, the duo is ninth in the region. 

For the men, Ferreira was named the ITA Men's Senior Player of the Year as well as the ITA Most Improved Senior Player. He ended the season with a 10-2 record in singles play and was also 10-3 in doubles action as he is currently ranked 2nd in singles within the East Region and second in doubles with teammate freshman Alessandro Evangelisti. 

Rounding out the awards was Ginat who was named the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recipient. He held a 9-5 singles record and an 11-6 doubles record as he is sixth in the East Region within the singles rankings and is 15th in the nation and first in the East Region with sophomore Jui Mao for doubles. The duo captured the NCAA Division II Doubles Title at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships and fell in the USTA/ITA Men's Doubles Super Bowl Championship Match this past fall. 

Eliasson and Ginat were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Tournament Teams while Eliasson and Ferreira were named to the All-CACC First Team and Ginat was named to the All-CACC second team. Additionally, Ferreira was the 2016 CACC Men's Tennis Player of the Year.
