Scarsdale's Abe Simon Race Results Released

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Russell Cruz and Jana Trenk were the overall winners of Saturday's 15K Scarsdale road race and James Pilchik and Trenk were the top Scarsdale finishers.

Scarsdale Parks and Recreation finalized the results of its annual road races Wednesday, amending the initial results posted on the website Tuesday.

Cruz, of New Rochelle, finished in 56:37, while Trenk was the first woman across the line in 1:04:19. Pilchik, who also placed third in the age 40-49 men's division, clocked in at 1:02:10.

New York City's Sherman Lau won the 4-miler in 23 minutes flat, while Leota (Susan) Branche of Scarsdale was the top woman in 30:46.

Three teams took part in the Abe Simon Memorial Team Run for men 50 and older and women 40 and older. Tracie Colburn, Joan Frankle and Susan Leone comprised the Running Divas team. The New Ro Runners were Neil Weiss, Stewart Teichman, Jerry Ragano, Hector Mendoza and Ed Irwin, and the Scarsdale Antiques were Julian Leventhal, Richard Primoff, Ron Muhlfelder, Bill Sachex and John Davidson.

The late Abe Simon's wife, Sandi Simon, has participated in the races about 40 times, skipping only a few over the past 43 years. She began anew in 2008 or 2009, as her daughter was in the race. She was 75 then. Simon raised a family in Scarsdale but lives in Tarrytown now.

"I was going to run 4 miles and somebody said. 'what about running 15K?'" she said. She stuck with the 4-miler.

"Mostly walk, a little run, but it was doable," she said. "The nine miles would have been hard, but the 4 miles was OK."
