Lady Clippers Volleyball Topped by Bloomfield

The Concordia College Clippers women’s volleyball team battled down to the wire against the Deacons of Bloomfield College this Thursday, alternating set victories until Bloomfield earned a 3-2 victory (25-12, 22-25, 25-16, 17-25, 15-10).

The Deacons took a commanding 13-2 lead in the first set and rolled to a 25-12 win. In the second set, Concordia turned its play around to earn a close 25-22 set victory. The third set favored Bloomfield as they jumped out to an early lead and did not look back while Concordia won a close fourth set to extend the match to a fifth and final game.

Both teams played well in the final set and it looked to be a close game. Midway through the set, the Clippers fell behind, but three consecutive attacking errors by the Deacons allowed Concordia to get within three points at 10-7. The Deacons went on a 5-3 run to end the set and win their second match of the season. Chelsea Zurcher (Crofton, Md.) and Juliann Gillespie (Clarkston, Mi.) led the Clippers with eight kills apiece. Hillary Hoffman (East Meadow, N.Y.) had a well-rounded game at Setter as she recorded 24 assists, six kills, and 14 defensive digs.

The Clippers (0-10, 0-4 CACC) will look for their first win this weekend as they host Chestnut Hill on Saturday at noon at the Meyer Athletic Center on the campus of Concordia College.
