Gil Lifts Concordia into Cacc Playoffs

BRONXVILLE, NY – The Concordia College Clippers men's basketball team needed a big win to advance to the Central Atlantic Athletic Association postseason playoffs and Argelix Gil provided the boost Tuesday, scoring 26 points and grabbing 20 rebounds in a thrilling 92-86 overtime victory over visiting Bloomfield College.

Concordia finished the regular season with a record of 12-14 overall and 9-9 in CACC play and secured the No. 4 seed in the North Division playoffs. Concordia will take on the No. 1 South Division seed Goldey-Beacom College Saturday in Wilmington, Del. at 4:30 p.m.

The Deacons were able to take a 17-10 lead early in the game and led by as many as 12 points in the first half and by seven points at halftime. Gil and teammate Brandon Whitaker took over in the second half to get the Clippers back into the game. Gil's jump shot at the 12:16 of the second half mark gave Concordia a 53-51 lead.

Bloomfield recovered and led by a score of 69-63 late in the fourth quarter before the Clippers forged a 76-76 tie with seven seconds remaining in the regular session.

Whitaker's three-point basket at the 3:37 mark of overtime gave the Clippers a lead they would not relinquish.

Gil added four assists and steal to his game-high scoring and rebounding and Whitaker added 23 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
