On Tuesday in the high school gymnasium, senior standouts Austin and Capasso and Andrew Schultz each announced that they would be taking their talents to college, signing their binding, National Letters of Intent to play Division-I ball as freshmen next season.
Capasso, who has shined on the Eagles’ pitch for years, will be playing soccer for Fairfield University next fall, while Schultz, a multi-sport star who has earned national accolades, will play football for Bryant University in the Northeast Conference.
During his extended tenure holding down the midfield for the Eagles, Capasso proved to be one of the county’s best behind the ball, a threat to score or set up a teammate in fantastic fashion whenever he got it on his foot.
Schultz enjoyed a banner year, being named one of the Westchester Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Class of 2016 “Golden Dozen” Scholar-Athletes. He was also one of six finalists for the “Heart of a Giant” award, where he earned money for the Eastchester football program for his work on - where he once again thrived - and off the field.
Both Capasso and Schultz also have served as key cogs on the high school’s lacrosse team, acting as longterm starters and playmakers for the squad.
