Cucd Seventh Graders Top Mahopac, Tarrytown

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – The Children Understanding Cultural Differences seventh-grade boys basketball team, which includes players from Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe, rolled to double victory over the weekend, topping Mahopac Saturday and Tarrytown Sunday.

Tied 17-17 at halftime against Mahopac, Tuckahoe’s CUCD, now 4-1 this season, controlled the second half led Jamon Murray, who scored a team-high 13 points.  Jason Douglas contributed 12 points and Christian Pinto, Alex Williams, Michael Stellate each had six points in the 49-29 final.

Zachary Tucker added four points and Isaiah Gunther had two points and Danny Belles, Connor McHugh Ceasar Dulanto and Mike Rizzo and the rest of CUCD defense held the Mahopac club to just 12 points in the entire second half.

CUCD played Tarrytown Sunday without the services of Jamon Murray and Alex Williams and the game was close throughout, tied 17-16 after one quarter, but broke out in the second half to earn a 58-41 victory.

Jason Douglas led CUCD with 28 points, followed by Zachary Tucker, who had eight. Isaiah Gunther and Mike Stellate added four each, Mike Rizzo scored three and Connor McHugh added two for the winners.

“Danny Belles Jr., Willie Maze and Caesar Dulanto played well and also contributed to the victory,” Gunther said. “Without Jamon Murray, our second leading scorer, we played well. Sometimes, with kids playing in so many other leagues it’s a need to keep as many kids as possible because you never know when someone is not going to be available.”
