Concordia Women Battle In Tennis Regional

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The Concordia College Clippers women's tennis team reached the team championship final at the three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship on Monday.

In the singles competition, Concordia’s No. 4 seed Yuliya Plevako (Astana, Kazakhstan) advanced to play NYIT’s Sara Burinato, the No. 2 seed, in the Women’s A Singles Championship match, falling in a close battle, 6-2, 2-6, 2-6. Plavako reached the final by defeating Nastia Shcherbakova of Chestnut Hill 6-2, 6-3.

Concordia’s Clara Catanzano (Sete, France) won her first two matches of the tournament before she faced Linda Tatala-Colin of Queens College, dropping that match by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Clippers’ Juliana Frey (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) won her first match 7-6 (4) 6-3 before being knocked out 7-5, 6-3 in the quarters.

In doubles competition, the team of Plevako /Catazano represented the Clippers. After a first round victory, the duo faced off against Juliana Victoria / Jin Querubin from Holy Family, falling to 8-4. Concordia (1-0, 1-0 CACC) will host both Chestnut Hill and Philadelphia U. in conference matches this weekend. The Clippers will first face the Griffins on Saturday and the Rams will play Concordia on Sunday.
