BRONXVILLE, N.Y. Concordia College womens volleyball coach Patrick Dietz said his team is ready to win with a strong group of returning players who he hopes will contend for the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference Championship this fall.
Last season we won a game for each girl I signed, which is a great improvement, Dietz said of his young group that went 6-18 in 2010. We split games we should have won and we defeated the 09-10 conference champs on our senior night this past season. We are looking forward to winning and the future is now.
The Clippers will feature 11 returning players and one newcomer, Samantha Kurtzke (Montvale, N.J.). We need to be ready to play and ready to win, said Dietz. Im going back to the hands on style of coaching. We are young in so many roles, but its going to boil down to how well we can gel as a team this season.
The Clippers begin the season in California playing in the Asics Crowne Plaza Labor Day Tournament hosted by Concordia (Calif.), the sister school to the Clippers. We havent taken a road trip in four years, Dietz said. We are going to get a test right off the bat. I cant wait to see it. Its exciting and will get us prepared for conference play.
The Clippers first game in California will be on Sept. 2. All home games will be played in the Meyer Athletic Center on the Concordia campus. The team is also planning a breast cancer awareness night that will be announced on Concordia (N.Y.)s Official Athletic site .
