Concordia Men's Soccer Toppled by Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bronxville-based Clippers men’s soccer team traveled to Philaldelphia University Saturday where they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Rams in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.

The Rams scored first as Ryan Purnell scored his first goal of the game at the four-minute mark. He would then score his second goal of the afternoon just 15 minutes later to give Philadelphia a 2-0 lead. Concordia’s Ekene Okereke (Beliefield, Germany) cut the lead to one on an unassisted goal at the 31st minute.

The Rams’ Mark Holman scored off an assist from Purnell late in the second half for a 3-1 lead, but the Clippers struck back minutes later with another goal by Okereke.

Concordia was unable to net a game-tying goal as the Clippers lost another close one, their third one goal loss of the season. Goalkeeper Paul Wavell (London, England) recorded nine saves for the Clippers in his first start of the season. Concordia (0-4, 0-1 CACC) will have a week off until a home game against conference opponent Goldey-Beacom on Saturday, September 17 at 2 p.m.
