BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College men’s soccer team started its season on the right foot with a 3-2 win Friday night against non-conference foe St. Anselm.
The Clippers won their first season opener since 2008 and beat their first Northeast-10 Conference opponent since 1999.
German native Ekene Okereke scored in the first half to give Concordia a 1-0 lead at the break. He scored again midway through the second half to extend the lead to two.
St. Anselm answered back just three minutes later, but Jesus Alvarez-Riesco, a native of Spain, recorded the Clippers’ third and final goal to extend Concordia’s lead to 3-1.
St. Anselm added a goal in the final seconds but could not tie the game.
