BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference has named Costanza Mecchi of Concordia College as its women’s tennis player of the year.
The junior from Rome, Italy, went an unblemished 8-0 during the regular season as the No. 1 singles player for the Clippers. Mecchi and partner Huai-Hsuan Huang earned another seven wins against no losses in doubles play. The CACC twice named Mecchi as its Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. It also marks the third time that the junior has claimed a spot on the All-CACC First Team.
Mecchi is joined on the conference’s first team by Linda Eliasson of Gothenburg, Sweden. The Clippers’ No. 2 player went 7-0 in both singles and doubles play to earn the first CACC first team selection of her career, after two All-CACC second team honors the past two years.
The Clippers were scheduled to face Goldey-Beacom College in the CACC semi-finals on Saturday at Chestnut Hill College in a quest for the program’s seventh consecutive conference championship tournament title since joining the CACC in 2009.
