Bronxvilles super sophomore runner Mary Cain placed sixth in the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon Saturday, earning All-American honors.
Cain, who is the two-time Section 1, Westchester County and New York State and Federation champion, ran the Nike in 17:55.66, just under 18 seconds behind the event winner Sarah Baxter, who is from Simi Valley, Calif.
Cain is a former swimmer who turned to cross country as a freshman last year and won both Section 1 and Class C state titles as a 14-year-old. She is coached by longtime Bronxville track and cross country coach Jim Mitchell and will now move into the indoor track season where she also excels at middle distance running.
