The draft announcement made at the press conference is in line with the partnership of the college with Team IMPACT, an organization that helps children with chronic illnesses and life-threatening diseases.

Jihad, 12, and Tashi, 14, will join the Gryphons' team roster as honorary members, where they will take part in practices and sit on the bench during Gryphons home games throughout the next season.

Both boys come from the Bronx. They were born with a genetic disease -- sickle cell anemia, a disorder that causes painful episodes, with risks of life-threatening complications and high mortality rate.

During the press conference, Gryphons head coach Chris Ehmer had a nice exchange with the media, the players and the draftees.

Moments after Jihad and Tashi we're introduced, Ehmer added, "We now found what we're looking for, not one, but two players."

When asked about the opportunity to be part of Gryphonx, Jihad said, " “It makes me feel excellent.”

Team IMPACT helps children like Jihad and Tashi, so they can cope up with their disorders, by making them "part of a team." The organizers match the kids with college athletic teams in the community - where the children join the athletic team, while the student athletes join the kids' support team. The organization establishes the connections, making sure the children, their families and the college teams develop a successful relationship and support.
