Bronxville's Near, McCormick Named All-America

Jack Near and Charlie McCormick were instrumental in leading the Bronxville boys’ lacrosse team to its most successful season in program history. The senior tandem were unstoppable offensively as the Broncos achieved their first Section 1 Class C title, initial regional title and debut in the state final four. Near and McCormick also added a first, becoming All-America selections. Bronxville also had an academic All-America in Ben Arcano.

“Charlie and I had talked about it, but we figured being a small school with an upcoming program, maybe one of us would have a shot at it,” said Near, who will attend Notre Dame next fall and play lacrosse.” Near received a call from Bronxville coach Tim Horgan with the good news. Near was excited, but happier to hear about McCormick and Horgan.

“Coach was really fired up and excited when he told that Charlie and I were chosen,” Near said. “Then he told me he was selected the Class C coach of the year and the Section 1 coach of the year. I was pretty pumped up as well. “We’re really proud of coach because he has done so much for the community and the program. He is really well-deserving of this.” When Near spoke to McCormick, after Horgan spoke to him, they realized they were both speechless.

“This is something you dream about when you’re younger and for this to happen when we are seniors, it’s an amazing experience,” Near said. The friends began playing lacrosse in fourth grade and, along with their classmates, will leave Bronxville having made a lasting impression. “It was awesome to see it all come together and in our senior year we made it really far,” Near said. “We can’t beat too upset because we accomplished a lot of firsts for Bronxville lacrosse this season. We have a lot to be proud of and it’s cool to know when we look back at this, we can say we started it.”
