Bronxville's Conway Selected to Golden Dozen

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Bronxville High School standout football player Christian Conway has been selected as one of the Golden Dozen scholar/athlete football players following the 2011 fall season.

"It's a great honor to have been named to the Golden Dozen, and I'm thankful to be recognized for academic achievement," Conway said. "I have been blessed with a very supportive family, and I am grateful for all of the opportunities that my family and Bronxville High School have given me. I hope to continue to succeed as a student-athlete in college."

Conway, a senior who is headed to Yale University next fall, rushed for school records of 1,885 yards and 33 touchdowns over the Broncos 8-1 season and was the lead back for last year’s unbeaten class C state championship team that went 12-0. Conway was also a standout defensives player as linebacker.

Jackson Conway, Christian’s twin brother and backfield mate who will also attend Yale, was named a Golden Dozen Honorable Mention. Jackson Conway was a star fullback and linebacker for the Broncos for the last two seasons.

The “Golden Dozen” are selected by the Westchester Chapter of the National Football Foundation every year and include the top scholar-athletes on the football field from the recently completed fall season. The players will be honored at the National Football Foundation Awards Banquet at Westchester Country Club in Harrison on Jan. 26.

A total of 38 students were honored from Westchester and Putnam counties, including the “Golden Dozen,” and the 26 honorable mention honorees.

The Golden Dozen selections are: Patrick Donohoe (Mahopac High School), Caleb Gilligan-Evans (Archbishop Stepinac), Joseph Hanley (Somers), Andrew Miller and  Chibueze Nwakeze (Rye Country Day School), Brett Poniros (Mamaroneck High School), Kyle Ricciardi (Croton High School), Daniel stein (Ardsley High School), Austin Taps (Stepinac High School), August Wolf (The Hackley School) and John Yozzo-Scaperrotta (Dobbs Ferry High School)
