BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Bronxville High School junior Mary Cain continued her meteoric running career Saturday by placing second in the 1,500-meter run at the USA Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Cain, running unattached, ran a time of 4:28.72 to take second place a step behind her training partner, Nike club runner Treniere Moser, who took first place in 4:28.62. Both runners qualified for the World Championships in Moscow this summer.
The 17-year-old phenom outran all her local high school competition last year after setting several state and national age group records, has moved on to a national and international career.
Cain recently became the first American junior to eclipse the 2-minute mark in the 800, finishing in 1 minute, 59.51 seconds at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon.
